“In Exile” is a painting by the Palestinian artist Ahmed Hmeedat.
Ahmed portrays the continuous plight of the Palestinian refugee cause in this painting. An elderly woman from the Dheisheh Refugee Camp sits on a wooden board, symbolizing her enduring wait for the hammer of life to crush her hopes of return. The canvas is adorned with collaged newspaper clippings, all discussing the status of Palestinian refugees. For this painting, Ahmed had to research the archive of the Badil Center in Bethlehem, a specialized resource center dedicated to Palestinian residency and refugee issues, to gather materials for this artwork.
