Searching for The Blue #17
Dimensions 6.8 ” x 9.8“ – Medium, Acrylics
“Searching for the Blue” is a captivating series of portraits born amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with roots in my last days in Alexandria, Virginia. Faced with leaving behind most of my art supplies, I chose to keep just three colors: ultramarine blue, titanium white, and ivory black. As I returned to Palestine, I wondered how this minimal palette would shape my art.
The pandemic’s lockdown led me to rediscover these treasured colors, and a vision emerged: a series of evocative portraits. Collaborating with photographers who shared copyright-free images, I captured impressions—not likenesses—using methodical brushstrokes and the unifying power of blue. This connection transcends backgrounds, resonating deeply with my Palestinian identity.
Embracing limited resources, I discovered that creativity knows no bounds. Regardless of circumstances, the innate desire to create and express ourselves prevails, bridging divides and celebrating our shared humanity.
