“Reclaiming the Canaanite land #1” is part of a recent collection of artworks by Reem Alnatsheh, created during her art residency in France between 2023 and 2025. Throughout this period, she has been experimenting with various media to develop a new genre of painting. Her unique artistic style blends fictional Palestinian folklore and storytelling with abstract landscapes.
In some of her works, figures emerge and fade, inviting the viewer into a layered visual narrative. Warm colors are applied sparingly in delicate brushstrokes, while cool tones dominate the compositions. Several pieces in this collection also feature a prominent use of neutral, earthy colors, which reflect Reem’s effort to strike a thoughtful color balance throughout this bold body of work.
This abstract series represents a courageous exploration of Palestinian storytelling and fictional children’s tales—narratives that are gradually vanishing under the pressures of military occupation, the pervasive reach of social media and smartphones, and the fragmented modernization of the Palestinian educational system.
The Consortium website invites you to view Reems’ artwork and enjoy the beauty of each brush stroke.
