About the Work

This painting evokes the landscapes and mountains of Palestine as an expression of steadfastness and an enduring, ancestral bond with the land. It is a scene that bears witness to identity and embodies a form of existential resistance: the unwavering presence of a people rooted in their homeland.

Salah Froukh paints his olive trees standing with their sturdy, twisted trunks, resembling the bodies of ancestors who have witnessed the passage of centuries. Deeply rooted in Palestinian life and collective memory, the olive tree represents a living, biological embodiment of identity. Its uprooting or burning by settlers is therefore far more than environmental destruction or economic loss; it is a symbolic attempt to erase the Palestinian presence and sever a people from the roots of their history.
