“Steadfast (Samed) – صامد” is a woodcut print painting by the Palestinian Artist Abdallah Hammad.

In this work, Hammad carves into a wooden board a scene of terror—one he never wishes to witness, yet one that has become painfully familiar. The piece was created in response to a demolition notice issued by Israeli authorities against the soccer pitch in Aida Refugee Camp, near the city of Bethlehem. As the camp’s only soccer field, the pitch became the focus of widespread local and international solidarity campaigns aimed at protecting it.

Through this work, Abdallah depicts a haunting nightmare—one that continues to visit the people of Aida each night, shaped by the constant threat of loss and erasure. As a result of international pressure, the demolition has been postponed for an indefinite period.
